We’re back for more from Waterfront Park on a gorgeous Thursday evening as Erie and Trenton conclude their three-game series. Erie got five shutout innings from Jared Gayhart and needed just a pair of third inning runs to defeat Trenton 2-0 and salvage the third game of the series. Gayhart was not supposed to start the game as he had to come on in relief of the expected starter Pat Stanley, (pictured) who unexpectedly hurt himself warming up in the bottom of the first inning. With the victory, Erie wins the season series over the Thunder four games to three. Here are the highlights…
TOP 3rd – Tough break for Ryan Pope and the Thunder. With runners on first and second and two outs, Deik Scram rolled one over towards second but first baseman Chris Malec ranged too far off the bag trying to field the ball and Scram beat him back for an infield single. Cale Iorg scored all the way from second on the play to put Erie on top 1-0. The next batter Brennan Boesch ripped an RBI single to left to plate Danny Worth and give Erie a 2-0 advantage.
