Game two started about 40 minutes late due to a rain delay, however the weather would clear up and Trenton took advantage of four extra base hits to defeat Binghamton 5-1 and earn a split in the day/night doubleheader. A quartet of relievers pieced together the game for Trenton as Josh Schmidt went three innings in the spot start, he was followed by Kevin Whelan (who earned the win), Wilkins Arias and Kanekoa Texeira. Here are the highlights…
BOTTOM 2nd – After the first two batters of the inning struck out looking, a hit-by-pitch and a walk allowed Marcos Vechionacci to step up to the plate. Vech went the opposite way and laced a three-run home run just inside the right-field foul pole to put Trenton on top 3-0.
BOTTOM 3rd – Eduardo Nunez (pictured) drilled a solo home run over the left field wall to put Ternton on top 4-1.
BOTTOM 5th – After a double into the right centerfield gap by Reegie Corona, shortstop Ruben tejada misplayed the relay throw from rightfielder Carl Loadenthal, allowing Justin Snyder to score all the way from first base, making the score 5-1 Trenton.
