Interview with Madison Bumgarner

Madison BumgarnerDuring the Thunder’s last series with Connecitcut, I was fortunate enough to sit down for a few minutes with the San Francisco Giants’  top prospect LHP Madison Bumgarner.  The 6-foot-4 phenom from North Carolina has come on like gangbusters since his promotion to the Eastern League in early May.  So far in 2009 between San Jose (High-A) of the California League and Connecticut, Bumgarner is 7-2 with a 1.88 ERA in 12 appearances (11 starts) .  The more impressive stat is he’s allowed only 51 hits and 14 walks in 62.1 innings pitched (1.04 WHIP).

Anyways, for such a young prospect (he’ll turn 20 on August 1st), he certainly seems like he has a solid grip on what he is supposed to do on the mound, and could quickly find himself at the Major League level.  The scouting report on Bumgarner is a mid-90’s fastball with good late life, a solid slider with hard biting action and a decent but developing curveball and changeup.  All-in-all, this kid could be the next Tim Lincecum if he continues to develop.  The Giants have been blessed recently with their pitching prospects.  Enjoy the interview…
