Sorry for the late post on the highlights, it was a long day yesterday with Rudy gone. All-in-all thought not a bad day for the Thunder, as they split the fake doubleheader with Reading (game one was the resumption of Friday night’s suspended game). Trenton clinched game one 8-2 as Jorge Vazquez continued his torrid pace going 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Here are some of the highlights…..
BOTTOM 1st – The only highlight to come from Friday nigh was an RBI groundout by Eduardo Nunez that plated Austin Krum and gave Trenton a 1-0 lead.

TOP 3rd – Josh Schmidt came on in relief of Zach McAllister, who was lost due to the suspended game, and allowed the first three runners of the inning to reach safely. After Kevin Mahar singled to lead off the inning, Brad Harman tripled into the right-centerfield gap, plating Mahar and tying the game at 1-1. During the next at-bat Schmidt would throw a wild pitch past catcher Jesus Montero allowing Harman tos core from third base whcih game Reading a 2-1 lead.

BOTTOM 6th – A big inning for the Thunder. After a Reegie Corona lead off walk, Nunez doubled down the left field line to score Reeg and tie the game at 2-2. The next batter Jorge Vazquez hit a MONSTER two-run home run off the scoreboard in left-centerfield to put Trenton ahead 4-2. Two batters later, Noah Hall doubled and would eventually score on an RBI single by Edwar Gonzalez. After the inning concluded, Trenton sent eight men to the plate and led 5-2.

BOTTOM 7th – The hits keep on coming for the home team. After another walk by Corona (he seems to always be the first man on base when Trenton scores multiple runs in an inning), Nunez singled followed by another missile of the bat of Vazquez to plate Corona and put Trenton ahead 6-2. Jesus Montero followed that up with a two-RBI double off the wall in deep left field to finish off the scoring and put the Thunder ahead 8-2.

…..The first pitch of game two came at 7:59 PM and Reading took control from the start en route to a 7-2 victory. Jason Johnson (pictured) made his first career start for Trenton after making four appearances for Scranton/Wikles-Barre (Triple-A) back in April. You could tell he was a little rusty as the right-hander gave up nine hits and six runs in only five innings of work. Here are some of the highlights….
TOP 1st – Reading took an early lead when J.J. allowed the first five men of the inning to reach safely. A single, followed by two walks then another single capped off by a double and a sacrafcie fly, gave the R-Phils a 4-0 lead. The big blow was the two-RBI double by Neil Sellers.

TOP 3rd – Reading kept piling it on as Jeremy Slayden drilled a two-run home run off the scoreboard in right-centerfield to put the Phils on top 6-0.
