Welcome back, it’s been eight long days since the last Thunder home game as Trenton returns to Waterfront Park to play a five-game in four day series against the Harrisburg Senators.  Also it’s a very rare “home and home” series as Trenton and Harrisburg just wrapped up a three-game series from Metro Bank Ballpark in Harrisburg (a series where the Thunder were swept by the lowly Nationals affiliate).  As for the game, it was a very rough night for the Thunder as Harrisburg pounds out 14 hits and defeat Trenton 9-1 on Monday night to extend the Thunder’s losing streak to four.  Ryan Pope (pictured) got the start and continued his “good start-bad start” trend as the right-hander gave up nine runs (eight earned) off 12 hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Pope (4-8) was tagged with the loss.  For Harrisburg, Luis Atilano (5-7) pitched brilliantly and earned the win as the right-hander went seven innings of one-run ball off six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.  Here are some of the highlights…

TOP 3rd – The first four batters of the inning all reached base safely as Michael Daniel and Matt Whitney both tallied RBI singles.  Bill Rhinehart followed with a sac fly as Harrisburg jumps out to a 3-0 lead.

TOP 4th – Another three-run frame for the Senators.  After a Freddie Bynum RBI single scored Edgardo Baez, Michael Daniel connected and sent a missile home run over the right field wall to put Harrisburg on top 6-0.

TOP 5th – Leonard Davis drills the first pitch of the inning down the right field line for a double and the next batter Matt Whitney singled up the middle to score Davis and put Harrisburg ahead by a touchdown, 7-0.

BOTTOM 7th – Coop is back!  An RBI single for the left fielder puts Trenton on the board as they trail 9-1. It was Cooper’s first game back at home since being activated from the disabled list on July 20th after missing a month and a half with a strained oblique.

…back with more tomorrow as the Thunder look to snap its four-game losing streak (all against the Senators).
